About the webinar

Wet blood spot technology is a method used to collect and analyze small samples of blood on filter paper. Unlike dried blood spot (DBS) technology, where blood is allowed to dry on the filter paper, wet blood spot technology maintains the blood sample in a wet or liquid state until analysis, allowing to preserve and recover fresh blood cells of high quality.

Different applications across the healthcare sector can benefit from the wet blood spot. During this webinar, Ahlstrom and Metafora Biosystems will discuss the use of wet blood spot collection cards for simple and efficient screening of the GLUT1 Deficiency Syndrome, a rare neurometabolic syndrome caused by a defect in the glucose transporter GLUT1, leading to a cerebral energy deficit. The assay leverages the capability of the wet blood spot to preserve red blood cells for antigen quantitation.

Furthermore, this approach can offer numerous advantages including enhanced sensitivity, as some analytes (biological molecules or chemical compounds) may be more stable or easier to detect in a wet state. It also allows for immediate processing and increased accuracy by reducing variability introduced by the drying process.
